Home >>> 9 eBay Beginners Selling Tips

There are many people making a fortune from eBay and, if you want , you can get a slice of the action. When you are starting out with eBay everything seems a little daunting. Perhaps you have bought one or two items and perhaps bidded on a few others. However, with a little help you can be selling like the pros. The clever people at ebay have made the selling process really easy to learn and whether you want to start selling goods on eBay for fun or for profit here are nine beginners tips to get you started.

  1. Spell check your writing - use your computer's spell checker and ensure it is set to UK spellings.

  2. PayPal - Register with PayPal (www.paypal.com) which allows you to take credit and debit cards online.

  3. Pictures - You will need to have a picture of your goods for your eBay auction ads. A computer scanner will be OK for many smaller items such as books, CDs and very small items. (However, take care not to scratch the glass plate on your scanner!) In most cases a digital camera will be necessary if you plan to sell anything larger than a paperback.

  4. PowerSellers - Have you come across them yet? Look for 'PowerSellers' (they have the 'PowerSeller' logo next to their name.) because they are the successful eBayers you want to learn from. They sell ££££s every day and are probably full time entrepreneurs. You can learn loads from the auction ads of the best PowerSellers. Most have been selling for years and their adverts show that. If you can't find a power seller got to ebay Shops and look for the largest stores - they are likely to be PowerSellers! Read/ analyse their auction ads (but never copy!).

  5. Product description - A clear detailed product description in your auction ads is best. Describe everything you can about your item, including any damage, or special features. If you know a little about the history of the item you may want to include that, as well.

  6. Auction title - make sure you have spelt your auction title correctly as this is what eBay looks at when it searches for an item. If there are variations in the name of the item you are selling try to include both in your title i.e. 'Hitch Hikers' and 'Hitchhikers' .

  7. Communication - as you are communicating by email keep your messages polite and respectful. Enquiries should be answered promptly and you should take every opportunity to show that you are a decent seller.

  8. Positive feedback - People will look at your feedback record in the same way that you would look at sellers feedback records. The more positive feedback you have, before you start selling, the better. It best if you have bought / sold a few items in the past and have at least some track record. Furthermore, make every effort not to get negative feedback. In the early part of your selling career negative feedback can be a great disadvantage.

  9. Learn HTML - Auction ads formatted in HTML look better than plain text ads. It is a simple fact that your auction ads will look more attractive and you can expect more interest from potential customers, than if you did not use HTML.

eBay is a great way to sell goods and make a little money. But for some it is a part time or full time career. Whether you are a beginner or PowerSeller these 9 points apply. Good luck and happy selling.
